Condition Guide

At Heirloom Riot, every piece is personally inspected and assigned a condition grade before listing. We use two grading scales depending on the age of the item. If you have any questions about a specific item's condition, please reach out before purchasing, and we're happy to provide additional photos or details.

Standard Condition Grades

Grade	What It Looks Like	Watch For
10 — New / Never Used	Pristine. Original tags, dust bag, and box present. Never carried.	Any factory imperfections or discoloration on hardware — still qualifies if minor.
8–9 — Like New	Minimal to no visible wear. Used once or twice, no scuffs, clean lining.	Light dust bag marks or tiny scratch on hardware — still acceptable.
7 — Excellent	Gently used. Minor surface marks, very light corner wear. Clean interior.	No peeling, no staining, no odor. Hardware bright with only faint surface marks.
6 — Very Good	Noticeable but light wear — slight corner rubs, minor scuffs on hardware.	Interior clean; no stains, no peeling, no odor. Overall well-maintained look.
5–6 — Good	Visible wear — corner rubs, light scratches, minor hardware tarnish.	Small interior stains or pen marks OK; no cracks, tears, or strong odors.
3–4 — Fair	Heavy wear — visible cracking, peeling trim, fading, or significant stains.	Still structurally sound. All flaws fully disclosed.

Vintage Condition Grades (20+ Years Old)

Grade	What It Looks Like	Watch For
VE — Vintage Excellent	Beautiful aged patina, minimal wear beyond age. Hardware naturally toned.	Lining clean or near-clean. Straps and closures fully functional.
VVG — Vintage Very Good	Appealing patina with light age wear — soft corners, slight hardware dulling.	Lining shows minor age marks. Structure solid, closures work properly.
VG — Vintage Good	Moderate age-related wear — light cracking, tarnished hardware, worn corners.	Character intact. Structurally sound. All known condition details disclosed.
VF — Vintage Fair	Significant age-related wear — cracking leather, heavy tarnish, fragile lining.	For collectors only. Era, all condition issues, and restoration history fully disclosed.
